Navigating the Bottleneck: Transit Updates for the Middle East
Escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East are causing significant disruptions in global shipping lanes. Here is how Origin Bridge is managing the impact on our coffee bound for the Gulf.
At Origin Bridge, our promise of building bridges, sharing coffee goes beyond sourcing and roasting; it relies on a predictable and secure supply chain. When global logistics face unprecedented pressure, transparency with our roasting partners becomes our most crucial tool.
The Oman Shipment
Currently, one of our containers bound for our partners in Sohar, Oman, is directly affected by these maritime disruptions. The Maersk vessel carrying this cargo has been held up as shipping lines evaluate safe passage options through the affected maritime corridors.
We understand that for roasteries, every delayed day impacts production schedules and inventory planning. While geopolitical events are outside of our control, how we protect the coffee and communicate with you is not.
Protecting Quality in Transit
Extended time on the water is a known risk in global coffee logistics, which is why we take preemptive measures at the farm and mill level. The green coffee currently en route to Sohar is securely packed in high-barrier hermetic liners (GrainPro), protecting the beans from moisture fluctuations, condensation, and temperature spikes while the container is held in transit.
Next Steps & Communication
We are tracking the Maersk routing updates on a daily basis. As the situation evolves, we are in direct contact with our local partners in Oman to adjust unloading and warehouse expectations accordingly.
Agility and transparency are key in the current global market. We will continue to keep all affected buyers updated as soon as new docking schedules are confirmed by the port authorities.
