About this Coffee
Juan Carlos Torres farms in Pitalito, Huila, Colombia's largest coffee-producing municipality. Together with his wife, daughters, mother, and brother, he manages Finca El Porvenir (15 hectares). Over the last 20 years, they have transformed the farm from traditional volume production to a model of high-end specialty.
While most of the farm is dedicated to disease-resistant varieties like Castillo and Cenicafé for stability, Juan Carlos has a special affection for the Pink Bourbon ("Borbón Rosado").
"The old varieties are susceptible to leaf rust and require more care," says Juan Carlos. "But I love their characteristics."
He dedicates specific lots to this variety, using experimental natural fermentations to unlock exotic profiles that stand apart from the traditional washed coffees of the region.
